Rockland, MA – Today Lou Valanzola, candidate for State Representative, publicly urged Governor Deval Patrick to reject President Obama’s request to accept the illegal immigrants into Massachusetts.

“Today I am urging the Governor not to accept the President’s request.  Our state cannot afford to care for more illegal immigrants,” said Valanzola.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, the Commonwealth already has 220,000 illegal immigrants and 55,000 are collecting welfare benefits.

“The problem of illegal immigration is costing taxpayers close to $2 billion.  It is time to close the borders and stop this invasion,” said Valanzola.  “As the next State Representative, I will support our laws and stand up for the taxpayers.

On the other hand, the incumbent Rep. Rhonda Nyman has let the people of her district down.  Here are few problem votes:

  • Roll 28.  This vote would have required verification of where people live to receive public assistance.  Valanzola believes that taxpayer funded benefits should not be going to illegal immigrants.
  • Roll Call 36 and 78.  These votes would have prohibited in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants.  Valanzola believes it is unfair to allow illegal immigrants to get costly tuition breaks when legal residents of bordering states pay a higher rate.

Lou Valanzola is currently employed as a Controller in Brockton.   He earned a degree in Accounting from Bentley University in 1984.  In addition to being a Selectman in Rockland, he’s also been involved in the community as a member of the Cable TV advisory board.  He was also a member of the volunteer Crossing guard committee which returned them in 2002 after a 12 year hiatus.  He also coached little league baseball and girls basketball.   He is also a member of the Rockland LION’s club.
